A bridge on Pennsylvania Route 934 in East Hanover Township has been named the WO1 John Stephen Chrin Memorial Bridge. The announcement was made by Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon), who led the effort to commemorate Army Warrant Officer John Chrin, a native of Lebanon County who died in Vietnam on October 13, 1971.
Chrin lost his life when the aircraft he was piloting crashed during a mission to rescue a wounded soldier. Four others were also involved in the incident.
“My hope is the signs on this bridge will serve as a permanent reminder of John’s leadership, bravery and commitment to our nation. His selflessness and sacrifice must always be remembered,” Diamond said.
The dedication ceremony was attended by Phil Arnold, an Army veteran known for organizing annual remembrance events for Chrin, and William Sypher from The Friends of Vietnam DUSTOFF, which promotes awareness about combat medical evacuation missions.
Diamond’s initiative to name the bridge in honor of Chrin was included as an amendment in legislative proceedings.
