Rep. John Schlegel announced that 21 fire companies in the 101st Legislative District have been awarded approximately $210,000 in state grants. These funds are part of the 2022-23 Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program, which is distributing over $31 million statewide.

The grants can be used for various purposes including construction or renovation of stations, equipment purchase or repair, training, debt reduction, education and public outreach, as well as recruitment and retention of staff.

“Residents of the 101st District rely on our emergency services to save lives and property. This funding will help ensure that essential equipment, services and personnel are there when we need them,” said Schlegel. “In recent years, the number of volunteer firefighters, EMS and rescue personnel has dropped to alarming levels. I am pleased that, in addition to maintaining the infrastructure and tools used by these essential services, the funding will also help with recruitment and retention of personnel.”

All fire companies listed are eligible to apply for this annual grant program funded solely through state gaming proceeds. The amount each company receives depends on filing their grant agreements with the Office of State Fire Commissioner.
