Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) has announced his support for H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, following its passage in the House of Representatives with a vote of 218 to 214. The legislation is now set to be presented to President Trump for signing.
Meuser commented on the bill, stating, “The One Big Beautiful Bill is a direct response to what the American people have demanded—secure borders, lower costs, greater opportunity, and an accountable government that works for them, not against them.”
He highlighted that the bill makes permanent the tax relief measures introduced in President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act while preventing what he described as “the largest tax increase in American history.” Without this legislation, Meuser noted there would be a “$4 trillion tax hike on the American people—raising taxes on 165 million taxpayers and over 33 million small businesses.”
For Pennsylvania families specifically, Meuser pointed out that the bill’s passage means avoiding a $2,500 tax increase and maintaining benefits such as “the full $30,000 standard deduction” and an expanded Child Tax Credit of $2,200 for approximately 1.4 million households. He also mentioned benefits for small businesses and family-owned farms within Pennsylvania.
“The OBBB supports working families in every corner of the country,” Meuser said. He detailed various provisions such as eliminating taxes on tips and overtime until 2028 and introducing Trump Investment Accounts for children born between 2025 and 2028.
Additionally, Meuser emphasized how the bill aims to secure national borders by enhancing resources for ICE and Border Patrol. It also seeks to boost domestic energy production by removing certain mandates and subsidies.
On healthcare reform within Medicaid, Meuser stated that it includes work requirements for specific adults without dependents while addressing issues like waste and fraud. A fund worth $50 billion is proposed to support rural hospitals under this act.
“The Big Beautiful Bill is essential to correcting course for our country,” concluded Meuser. He believes it reflects their commitment to delivering an America First agenda aimed at restoring fiscal stability and prioritizing American families’ needs.
