A grant of $250,000 has been awarded to the Lebanon County Redevelopment Authority for the development of a community center in greater Palmyra. This was announced by Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon). The 21,000-square-foot facility, located on East Broad Street, will include apartments, a food distribution center called the Caring Cupboard, and spaces for seminars and health screenings.
The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and is sourced from Marcellus Shale impact fees and realty transfer taxes. “We’ve experienced ever-increasing demand for services in Lebanon County. This grant will go a long way toward bolstering those resources,” said Diamond. He added that he looks forward to seeing the project’s completion.
The project includes twelve one-bedroom apartments intended as affordable housing units. “Particularly during this time of volatility in the rental market, individuals and families are seeking safe housing that they won’t be immediately priced out of,” stated Diamond.
Land for this project was donated in 2020, aiding The Caring Cupboard’s mission to expand its reach innovatively. “There aren’t a whole lot of projects that look like this. We’re excited to be at the forefront of innovation to meet the needs of our neighbors,” said Shila Ulrich, executive director of The Caring Cupboard.
