Rep. John Schlegel has announced that fire and emergency medical services in the 101st Legislative District will receive a total of $240,813 in state grants. The funding is part of the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program managed by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner, which is distributing approximately $38 million statewide.

The grants are intended for various purposes including construction or renovation of facilities, equipment purchase or repair, training, debt reduction, education and public outreach, as well as recruitment and retention efforts.

Seventeen local organizations will benefit from these funds. Among them are Community Fire Co. of Cornwall Borough receiving $12,879 and South Lebanon Fire Co., which will receive $28,322.

“These grants will strengthen our local fire companies and emergency medical services providers,” stated Schlegel. “Enabling them to continue their excellent work to protect our communities and residents in our times of emergency.”

The grant program is funded through state gaming proceeds and requires recipients to file their agreements with the Office of State Fire Commissioner.
