State Representative John Schlegel, from the 101st Legislative District, announced today that 12 fire companies in the district have received state grants totaling nearly $170,000. The grants were awarded through the 2023-24 Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program and will support various needs of the fire and EMS companies.
According to Schlegel, the grants can be used for a range of purposes including the construction or renovation of stations, the purchase or repair of equipment, training, debt reduction, education and public outreach, as well as staff recruitment and retention efforts.
“Emergency services personnel are tasked with saving lives and property, and we rely on them to be there in our times of need,” said Schlegel. “This funding will help ensure our local fire and EMS companies have the tools, personnel, and equipment they need to effectively respond to emergencies in our communities.”
The 12 fire companies that received grants this year are as follows:
– Community Fire Co. of Cornwall Borough – $14,034
– Ebenezer Fire Co. – $13,451
– Friendship Fire Co. – $14,229
– Glenn Lebanon Fire Co. – $13,645
– Goodwill Fire Engine & Hose Co. No.5 – $13,256
– Lebanon Chemical Engine & Insurance Patrol Co. No.1 – $14,618
– Lebanon Fire Dept. – $14,812
– Lebanon Fire Dept. First Aid and Safety Patrol – $15,000
– Lebanon Hook & Ladder Co. No.1 – $13,840
– Liberty Fire Department No.3 – $14,229
– Neversink Fire Co. – $14,812
– Prescott Community Fire Co. – $13,451
It is important to note that all fire companies, EMS services, and volunteer rescue squads are eligible to apply for the annual grant program, which is funded solely with state gaming proceeds. The funding amounts received by the companies are contingent on them filing their grant agreements with the Office of State Fire Commissioner by July 1, 2024.
These grants will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the capabilities of the local fire and EMS companies in the 101st Legislative District. With the funds, they will be able to enhance their infrastructure, update their equipment, and provide necessary training to their personnel.
