Congressman Dan Meuser has announced that Lycoming County will receive $1.25 million in federal funding for two projects focused on infrastructure and workforce development. The funds are part of the FY26 Interior and Environment and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Acts.
The Williamsport Municipal Water Authority will receive $1 million to replace approximately 4,000 linear feet of aging transmission water main. This project aims to prevent failures in the system, improve reliability, increase capacity, and support future growth in the area.
An additional $250,000 is allocated to Pennsylvania College of Technology for upgrades at its Schneebeli Earth Science Center. The funding will be used for building improvements, site work, equipment upgrades, and an addition to house a new mill. These enhancements are intended to benefit the Forest Technology program by preparing students and workers for careers in timber production management.
“From ensuring clean drinking water to strengthening workforce training, this funding delivers real, lasting benefits for Lycoming County,” said Congressman Meuser. “Investments in Williamsport’s water infrastructure will safeguard water quality, expand system capacity, and support future growth, while hands-on mill training at Penn College of Technology will equip students for well-paying careers in one of the region’s most vital industries. I was glad to partner with the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority and Penn Tech to secure these investments that will continue to benefit local families and employers for years to come.”
Michael D. Miller, Executive Director of the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority said: “Congressman Meuser has been a tremendous supporter of our authority. His support has helped us keep rates low for our users while ensuring our system remains reliable for the people who depend on it. This is not a routine project, it is a significant investment that will strengthen the system and ensure its long-term viability.”
Pennsylvania College of Technology President Mike Reed added: “Pennsylvania College of Technology is incredibly appreciative of Congressman Dan Meuser and his team for helping to secure critical federal funds for enhancements to the Schneebeli Earth Science Center’s forestry building and recently upgraded sawmill, which will ultimately become the PCT Forest Product Center. This support will allow us to continue significant improvements to the facility for our existing industry-informed forestry program, a program which prepares students and incumbent workers alike for well-paying jobs in timber production management – a significant, important, and historic industry in the Commonwealth, and in our region specifically.”
