Congressman Dan Meuser announced that $4.2 million in federal funds have been secured for two projects in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The funding is part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act.

Of the total, $3.5 million will be used for improvements to the Dallas School District Community Center. The upgrades aim to expand access to wellness activities for both students and residents in the Greater Back Mountain Region throughout the year.

An additional $700,000 is allocated for improvements on Old Airport Road in Butler Township. The project involves reconstructing about 1.2 miles of roadway and enhancing drainage systems to improve safety, stormwater management, and transportation reliability.

“These are the kinds of investments that will improve the quality of life here in Luzerne County, from safer roads to improved facilities for our local schools,” said Congressman Meuser. “Each one grew out of direct conversations with local leaders and reflects the priorities of the communities they serve. I was pleased to work hand in hand with the Dallas School District and Luzerne County to secure this funding so students have every opportunity to thrive, and residents can count on infrastructure that is built to last.”

Dr. Thomas J. Duffy, Superintendent of Dallas School District, stated: “On behalf of the Dallas School District, thank you for your communication and for securing $3,500,000 in funding for the Community Wellness Center project. We are deeply grateful for your support and advocacy on behalf of our students and the greater Back Mountain community. This funding has the potential to have a meaningful and lasting impact by enhancing year-round wellness, recreation, and community engagement. We sincerely appreciate your continued commitment to improving the quality of life and opportunities for our students and residents.”

Romilda Crocamo, County Manager of Luzerne County said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Congressman Meuser for securing $700,000 for improvements to Old Airport Road in Butler Township. This substantial funding reflects his unwavering commitment to supporting Luzerne County, demonstrating that his dedication goes beyond mere words.”

Crocamo added: “With this financial support, we can continue our vital work in repairing and enhancing our county roads, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for all residents. Congressman Meuser consistently delivers when we turn to him for assistance, and this achievement is a testament to his advocacy for our community. On behalf of Luzerne County, thank you, Congressman Meuser, for your steadfast support and commitment to our infrastructure needs.”
