Rep. John Schlegel (R-Lebanon) has been appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Related Disorders (ADRD). This committee will provide guidance to a newly established office within the Pennsylvania Department of Aging dedicated to addressing issues related to Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Schlegel played a role in passing Act 111 of 2024, which created the Office of Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Related Disorders. The new office was formed in response to the increasing number of older Pennsylvanians affected by these conditions. More than 280,000 older residents in Pennsylvania are currently living with ADRD.
The advisory committee consists of professionals from medical fields as well as government and policy experts. Its work will focus on reducing risk factors, promoting early detection and diagnosis, and providing support for caregivers and families impacted by dementia-related illnesses.
“As a state representative and member of the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee, I routinely work on issues affecting older Pennsylvanians and their families,” said Schlegel. “It is my honor to serve on this important advisory committee and to work toward improving the lives of older Pennsylvanians who are afflicted with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related illnesses.”
