Lebanon Valley College issued the following announcement on Feb. 17.

Dr. Felicia Brown-Haywood, LPC, NCC, announced that Annesha (A-Neesha) Edwards-Carter will join Lebanon Valley College as director of diversity, equity, inclusion, and intercultural affairs on March 1. Edwards-Carter comes to LVC from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where she is coordinator of diversity initiatives, civic engagement, and LGBTQ+ student services, and an adjunct professor in career and networking navigation.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be joining the LVC community!” noted Edwards-Carter. “I am excited that I can assist with student development through DEI [Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion] work and remain dedicated to amplifying student voices.”

Edwards-Carter was a star undergraduate student at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science (honors) and sociology. She received two major student awards (Castle Pin and Duchesne Center) and was president of the senior class and the Black Student Union. Edwards-Carter was an office assistant in Manhattanville’s Duchesne for Religion and Social Justice Center all four of her undergraduate years and was an advancement office program mentor for two years.

She began her post-graduate career as an employment consultant in Delaware before moving to Philadelphia to become an employment specialist for Special People in Northeast. Edwards-Carter returned to higher education earning her Master of Education in higher education administration from Temple University. At Temple, she interned in the IDEAL Center, conducting research on diversity and inclusion topics, analyzed and provided feedback on Diversity in Higher Education course curriculum, and facilitated student and family trainings on diversity and implicit bias.

After Temple, Edwards-Carter joined St. Mary’s, where she planned and executive more than 30 events each year, including topics on diversity, community service, and LGBTQ+. She also operated the student food pantry; oversaw students who ran the Rainbow Room, a safe space for LGBTQ+ students; and served as an advisor to numerous diversity groups.
