Congressman Dan Meuser, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 9th district since 2019, shared a series of tweets on November 19 and 20, 2024. The posts address various issues ranging from international hostage situations to local educational initiatives and national safety concerns.
On November 19, Congressman Meuser highlighted the case of Ryan Corbett, an individual from Susquehanna County who has been held by the Taliban for over two years. He mentioned legislative efforts to alleviate financial burdens on American hostages: "Ryan Corbett, who grew up in Susquehanna County, has been held by the Taliban for 832 days. The Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act will ensure Ryan, and other Americans, can return home without the added burden of financial fallout from the IRS,…"
The following day, November 20, he invited middle school students in Pennsylvania to participate in a civics competition aimed at fostering civic engagement: "Attention Parents of Middle Schoolers! The Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Chamber Foundation, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation invite 6th–8th graders in Pennsylvania to join the National Civics Bee—a nonpartisan competition inspiring civic engagement."
Later that day, Meuser addressed a conviction related to an incident involving Laken Riley and criticized current immigration policies: "Laken Riley lost her life because the Biden Administration inexplicably prioritized illegal immigrants over the safety of American Citizens. While today's conviction marks justice for Laken Riley… January 20, 2025 will usher in justice for all Americans."
