A $1 million grant has been awarded to Allen Distribution for the construction of three rail sidings at a distribution center in Jackson Township. The announcement was made by Representative Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon).
The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the grant from the Multimodal Transportation Fund. This funding will support railroad track development serving a 625,000-square-foot warehouse located at 655 King St. The project aims to connect the Myerstown facility with Allen Distribution's network in Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, Allentown, and Scranton.
“Rail commerce has a storied history in this country,” stated Diamond. “Interconnectivity of the rail system within Lebanon County and across Pennsylvania allows goods to be moved in an efficient, safe manner while lessening the congestion on our highways.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund is designed to promote economic development and ensure a reliable transportation system within Pennsylvania. Funds can be used for various purposes including transportation assets, streetscapes, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets, and transit-oriented development.
